this hour. over the summer, this past summer, republican governor rick snyder of michigan signed a bill to expand the use of telemedicine in his state. his new law requires that insurance companies have to pay for treatment that you get via contact with a doctor through like a web cam or otherwise online. it's telemedicine. governor snyder was so excited to sign this thing. he said at the time telemedicine offers an incredible opportunity to easily provide health care to michigan's elderly, disabled, and rural communities. i applaud the legislature's initiative to use technology to save lives. the bill got unanimous support. governor snyder signed it with his big happy statement about how awesome this was going to be. he was so excited. yay, telemedicine. telemedicine, you are the future for michigan. you are saving lives. that was this summer. tonight that same governor snyder is poised to sign another law in michigan that would ban the use of telemedicine in that state. specifically for one type of medical care. it's the same type of medical care provided at clinics in michigan that g

delivery issues in several states, including iowa, michigan, wisconsin, and nebraska. it also says contingency plans are in place. we didn't see service advisories on u.p.s.'s website or the postal service website. what's adding to this is really that surge in online shopping i just told you about. it's got a direct impact on the shipping business. these shippers, they just had a huge increase in volume this holiday season, and some of the biggest single days ever. listen to this. u.p.s. says it made 28 million deliveries just last thursday. fedex says it moved 19 million packages on its busiest day. even the postal service says it moved a whopping 658 pieces of mail on december 17th. the weather is complicating issues. packages may arrive late in some places. carol? >> you're right about that. i mailed some packages last thursday, and u.p.s. told me i had a 50-50 chance of them getting there by christmas day. i'm keeping my fingers crossed. >> fingers crossed. >> alison kosik, thank you. >>> we have to talk politics. with the president and congress spending christmas away from was

of the state of michigan. she led the fight working with senator roberts. and they worked together not just on the substance but worked together in a manner that allowed it to be bipartisan. i've made it a priority in my work representing the people of pennsylvania to keep pennsylvania's agricultural industry and our rural economy strong to support families in pennsylvania. agriculture is our state's largest industry. pennsylvania's farm gain value -- which is another way of describing cash receipts to growers -- and the last number that we have, which is a 2010 number, was $5.7 billion. a lot of people who probably haven't spent much time in pennsylvania think of it as a -- a state of big cities and small towns but they may miss the -- the substantial agricultural economy that we have. agribusiness in our state is a $46.4 billion industry. 17.5% of pennsylvanians are employed in the so-called food and fiber system. and one of the questions we have to ask is: what does this all mean? well, i think it certainly means that at least we need a five-year farm bill, not -- not a short-term farm b

michigan, ohio going towards tomorrow. we will be watching this storm to trek eastward. two to four inches on top of what's on the ground in pennsylvania. this storm is also going to bring substantial snowfall across new england once again. you can see the legend showing us we're anticipating six inches of snow through the mountains into virginia, but then by the time we get to sunday, look at this, another pocket of heavy snow in central connecticut according to computer models as well as rhode island and the northfork of long island. that's what is interesting about long island, you will get snow in one part, 11 miles to the south it will be rain. many people are traveling this weekend that took the entire week off, they were on vacation. anticipating more snowfall for parts of new england. the storm setup for today, heavy rain through the mid south. snow popping up in the heartland again. again, this is an area that already saw plenty of snow this week. the colder air is plummeting down with temperatures for highs only in the 20s in kansas city and minneapolis, warming back up along the
